Marquette Trip a Success

All three teams traveled to Marquette this week for an overnight stay and games on Thursday.

The Varsity prevailed 4-3, JV Gold won 3-1 and the Black squad played to a 3-3 tie.

Details from the Record-Eagle:

TC Central 4 - Marquette 3

Greg Merica's second goal of the game proved to be the winner as Traverse City Central posted a 4-3 road win at Marquette.

Sam Kelly and Matt Madion also tallied for the Trojans, who led 3-1 at half. Kelly finished with two assists. Merica and Luke McGreaham had one assist.

Central's Dane Macdonell celebrated his birthday with eight saves in goal.

Tony Hicks led the defensive effort for the Trojans, now 3-1.

Central's JV Gold claimed a 3-2 win. Nick Wright scored two goals for the Trojans, including the winner late in the game. Frank Dituri also tallied. Briggs Chapman was in goal.

Mark Madion and Alex Gore played strong games for Central.

Central's Black JV played Marquette to a 3-3 tie. Jordan Detar and Neil Beauchamp each had a goal and an assist. Kevin Trippe scored the tying goal midway through the second half. The Black, sparked by Luke Grof and Bennett Weckler, had Ben Mansfield in goal.

JV Black Run Record to 2-0

JV Black 3
Roscommon 1

On a wet, rainy day in Roscommon, the JV Black eleven cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Roscommon Bucks. Led again by the stalwart back line of Bennet Weckler, John Newland and Luke Grof in front of keeper Ben Mansfield, the Trojans kept their opponents bottled up most of the day, providing time for the offense to finally click.

The first half ended 2-1, with the Trojan goals supplied by Garret _____ and John Newland off a Jordan Frain assist. The second half goal by Alex Gore on a nice follow-up of Jordan deTar's blast came after numerous other chances rang of the post or crossbar.

The JV Black's next game will be Thursday, August 30th in Marquette.

JV Black Shutout Leland

TC Black 4
Leland 0

TC Central's JV Black squad opened their season with a 4-0 win over Leland at the Coast Guard Fields on Wednesday, August 22.

The Trojans dominated time of possession in the first half, but were only up 1-0 at the half on a nice finish of a Miles Beauchamp pass by Jordan Detar. The second half saw continued pressure by the Trojans, but they were unable to find the back of the net until a long attempt by Nick Armour caught the Leland keeper out of position as he carried the ball into the goal.

The second goal sparked the Trojan attack and they tallied twice more -- with Armour notching his second and midfielder Brian Roddy placing netting the final goal.

Strong play along the back line, particularly by Luke Grof, John Newland and Bennett Weckler limited chances for keeper Ben Mansfield, but he did have two solid stops early in the second half to keep the Trojan lead before the second half scoring burst.

The JV Black squad is in action again this Friday against Roscommon HS in Roscommon.
